Grok Bot: a team of collaborators that works while you sleep

What Grok Bot is, how to create several Bots each with a role, what memory, skills and routines are for, why the shared computer matters, and where to start with a first useful task.

In short

  • Grok Bot is xAI’s agent environment: each Bot has memory, files, browser and terminal on a cloud computer, and keeps working with your laptop off.
  • You can create several Bots, each with a role, working in parallel and passing context; a main one coordinates them.
  • You teach it a job once: it saves it as a skill and a routine decides when to repeat it.
  • It’s included in the X Subscription from Premium ($30 a month), together with Grok and Cursor.

From chat to work that carries on

With a normal chat you have to reopen the work each time: remember the goal, find the material, ask for the next check. Grok Bot changes that relationship: you have a collaborator with a role, an environment that persists and continuity between tasks. The point isn’t a smarter answer, but how much work it carries forward between one of your interventions and the next.

Start with one Bot and a precise task

The temptation is to create a researcher, a marketing lead and a personal assistant right away. I’d start with one recurring result that costs you attention today: a weekly roundup of sources in your field, a check of three official pages, a summary of changes to some documents.

Describe the result, the allowed material, where to save it and when to ask for help. Give it a name that reminds you of the task (“Supplier roundup”), not an elaborate personality. And teach it the criterion with two examples: an update worth a notification and one that can wait.

Memory, skills and routines

  • Memory keeps preferences and context: language, audience, quality criteria. What expires (prices, dates) should be rechecked in the documents, not remembered.
  • A skill keeps the way a job is done; you can even show it once in the browser and review the procedure it derives.
  • A routine decides when to run it, say every Monday. A good Bot also handles silence: with no news it updates the log without disturbing you, and tells “no change” apart from “I couldn’t check”.

Beyond summaries it prepares dashboards, reports and memos from the files you allow: the dashboard shows a change, the report explains it, the memo proposes what to decide.

When a team of Bots makes sense

Several Bots help when tasks have different material or criteria: one gathers information, one prepares content, one follows the delivery calendar. A main Bot coordinates the others, so you only talk to one, even by voice while walking. Decide, though, who produces the final result and who checks it: two Bots editing the same file without coordinating create more work than one.

The computer is shared

Bots on the same account use the same computer: files, cookies, sessions and credentials are shared. Different screens aren’t separate environments. Give each task only the access it needs, and keep approval before sending, publishing, buying or changing permissions.

Where I’d start

I’d pick a useful, low-risk routine, try it by hand and only then make it recurring. For me Grok Bot shines when continuity matters more than the single answer: monitoring, update roundups, preparing material and coordinating tasks. I compare it with Claude Duet, ChatGPT dots, Meta Muse, Hermes and OpenClaw on the 24/7 agents page.

In my book, the Grok Bot chapter walks through every step with complete examples.
